
The Puma Cross Country teams placed second, and fourth, this past weekend at the Mesa XC Jamboree. The PV men's team placed second to team champion MCC in the seven-team men's race, while the women's team placed fourth, again to team champion Mesa Community College, in the five-team women's race.
The Puma men were led by sophomore Gilbert Olivas' second-place overall finish. Olivas' time was 25:30.9 over the 8000 meter course on MCC's campus. He was followed by Nate Pestka, 7th place in 26:20, Pierce Vittone, 13th in 26:51, Chaz Miller, 19th in 27:26, Jason Lundgren, 20th in 27:30, Isaac Reynolds, 24th in 27:55, Jake Stein, 25th in 27:55, Oscar Gonzales, 27th in 28:10, Caleb Villegas, 36th in 29:04, and Cesar Fonseca in 41st with a time of 29:41.Yotuel Garcia of Mesa won the race in 25:09.
On the women's side, the Pumas were led by Jazmin Estrada's 12th place finish in a time of 19:59. Estrada was followed by Ani LeSueur, 18th place in 20:49, Aspen LeSueur, 25th in 21:43, Sophia Maroufkani, 29th in 22:35, Hannah Lowe, 47th in 28:23, and Saree Ochoa, 48th in 28:28. The women's 5000 meter race was won by Hayley Burns of Coconino College in 17:53.
The Pumas next competition will be on October 15th at the Drews/Neubauer Invitational in West Salem, Wisconsin.
