Game 1: PVCC 3, GCC 13 (5)
The Pumas had trouble keeping up with Glendale, losing 13-3 in game one of the double header.
The Gauchos jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs, and added another run in the top of the second inning.
The Pumas scored one run in the bottom of the second inning after Jacie Fink doubled, scoring Paige Ginsberg. The Pumas scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth on a home run to left field by Ginsberg, making it 5-3 GCC. Ultimately, GCC took control in the fifth inning, putting up six more runs.
Brianna Sanchez took the loss for the Pumas. The starting pitcher went five innings, giving up 13 runs (seven earned) on 16 hits, striking out zero and walking one.
Ginsberg drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Pumas with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-2 on the day.
Game 2: PVCC 7, GCC 15
The Pumas fought hard, but were unable to match Glendale in a 15-7 loss in game two.
Despite the Gauchos taking an early lead, the Pumas never gave up and were in the game until the end. Down eight with two strikes in the bottom of the fifth inning, Rhaylyn Tarango hit a sacrifice fly scoring Cami Britton and extending the game into the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Pumas were again down by eight with two outs when Emily Quigg scored on an error and a double by Tarango extended the game once more.
Madison Kenney pitched four and one-third innings in relief for the Pumas. The hurler allowed nine hits and six runs while striking out none and walking four. Alexandria Jaquez took the loss for the Pumas. The hurler went two and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits, striking out none and walking two.
Tarango provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Pumas with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Cami Britton led the team with three hits in four at bats and Trista Quijada went 2-for-4 at the plate. Jacie Fink paced the Pumas with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying five walks for the game.
The Pumas next face Miles Community College (MT) on Thursday, March 6 at home. First pitch is at 12:00pm.
