Men's Soccer closed out a challenging road swing with a strong 3-0 win over GateWay Community College on Tuesday. The result came just three days after a hard-fought 3-0 loss to nationally ranked Pima Community College, where the Pumas showed significant improvement from past meetings.
"We had a strong first half against Pima," said Head Coach Christian DeVries. "They are a well coached team and worthy of their national ranking. I was pleased with the effort and determination of our guys. We were tied at the half and showed great improvement over the last couple of results we've had against Pima."
After holding Pima scoreless through the first 45 minutes on Saturday, the Aztecs capitalized on a few second-half chances to pull away. But, the Pumas carried that grit and intensity into Tuesday's contest.
At GateWay, the Pumas came out composed and purposeful. The Pumas opened the scoring early, setting the tone for the match. The attack remained consistent throughout, with three different players finding the net and the defense posting a clean sheet. The win was not only a morale boost but also critical in the competitive ACCAC playoff race.
Up next, the Pumas face a key matchup as they travel to take on Scottsdale Community College on Saturday, September 27, at 8:00pm. Both teams are battling for postseason positioning as the first round of conference play wraps up.
"This is a key game," added Coach DeVries. "Both teams are currently fighting to secure a playoff spot, and I expect it will be a high-energy game."
With momentum building, PVCC Men's Soccer continues to grow in confidence, identity, and performance heading into the heart of the season.
