
The #7 Pumas faced off against the #6 Geckos on Monday in the Region I playoff play-in game at Gene Autry Park. The Pumas came out on top in the game, posting 12 runs and 15 hits in the 12-7 win over GWCC.
PVCC got on the board in the second inning when they scored one run when Ryan Romero singled. They put up five in the inning and retained the lead for the duration. The Pumas posted one in the fifth, two in the sixth, and four in the eighth.
PVCC scattered 15 hits in the game. Jesus Moreno, Tyler McCaughey, Carlos Molina, Noah Burgarello, and Romero all managed multiple hits. Moreno went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Pumas in hits.
Colton McIntosh was the winning pitcher for PVCC. The righthander surrendered three runs on five hits over five innings, striking out three. David Enriquez, Danny Carpenter, and Brady Welch all put in work in relief, steering their team towards the victory.
PVCC advances to round one of the Region I playoffs. The Pumas' bracket will be hosted by #1 Phoenix College where the #1, #4 and #7 seeds will play in a double-elimination style tournament. The Pumas will face #4 Chandler-Gilbert on Thursday, May 6 to kick off the three-day round.
