Despite Collecting Nine Hits, Pumas Fall to Scottsdale
The Pumas bats were strong against SCC on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as they fell 8-6.
After a solo homerun by the Artichokes in the top of the second inning, the Pumas knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the second inning, when they scored one run on an error. However, Scottsdale pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. The Pumas tallied three runs in the fifth inning to cut into the Artichokes lead. The offensive firepower by the Pumas was led by Derek Wood, Noah Burgarello, and Jager Straub, who all drove in runs.
Coby Davis was on the hill for the Pumas. The righthander surrendered five runs on four hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four. Michael Modrick and Michael Keevins entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and a third innings and one inning respectively.
The Pumas tallied two home runs on the day. Burgarello had a long ball in the seventh inning and Austin Pickowicz went yard in the sixth.
The Pumas tallied nine hits during the game, outhitting Scottsdale nine to eight. Tyler McCaughey and Burgarello each collected two hits to lead the Pumas. The Pumas were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Jesus Moreno made the most plays with seven.
Game 2: SCC 18, PVCC 1 (7)
Scottsdale Runs Away with Early Lead in Victory
The Pumas struggled to contain the high-powered offense of SCC. The Pumas fell behind early and couldn't come back in this 18-1 loss to SCC.
Jonathan Hyman toed the rubber for the Pumas. The righthander went one inning, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out one.
Noah Burgarello, Carlos Molina, Isaac George, and Cade Kennedy each managed one hit to lead the Pumas.
