Game 1: PVCC 4, GCC 2

Pumas Grab the Lead in Sixth Inning for Victory Over Gauchos

The Pumas nabbed the lead late in the game in a 4-2 victory over Glendale on Saturday. The game was tied at one with the Pumas batting in the top of the sixth when Derek Wood scored on a passed ball, giving the Pumas a 2-1 lead.

The Pumas were able to add on another run that same inning when Jacob Paige doubled, scoring Anthoine Shell. In the top of the seventh inning, Wood added on an insurance run when he singled, scoring Noah Burgarello who hit a line drive triple to center field earlier in the inning.

Colby Davis started the game for the Pumas. The righthander went four innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out two. Danny Carpenter came into the game in relief of Davis and pitched the Pumas to victory. The pitcher went three innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out one and walking zero.

The Pumas tallied ten hits on the day. Shell and Burgarello each collected two hits to lead the Pumas.

 

Game 2: GCC 6, PVCC 5

Pumas Go Down on Final Play Against Glendale

It came down to the last play, but the Pumas were on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to the Gauchos in the second game on Saturday. The game was tied at five with GCC batting in the bottom of the ninth when the Gauchos doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Jager Straub put the Pumas on the board in the second inning when he hit a solo homerun to left field, tying the game at one a piece. The Pumas notched three more in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Ryan Romero to take a 5-1 lead.

Jonathan Hyman was on the hill for the Pumas. Hyman lasted three innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out three. Mason Dillow, Brady Welch, Zach Rogers, and Logan Birch each entered the game in relief, throwing two innings, one and two-thirds innings, one inning, and one inning respectively.

The Pumas racked up seven hits on the day. Straub and Noah Burgarello each managed two hits to lead the Pumas.
