After a 21 month hiatus due to COVID, Pumas Women's Soccer returned to the pitch last week splitting results in their first two games of the season.
In their first game back, starting nine freshmen, the women wasted no time finding the back of the net against GateWay on August 27. Angeles Delgado took a pass from Maritza Soto and tucked the ball away for the first goal of the season in the first 60 seconds. The Pumas continued to put pressure on the Geckos, taking a 4-0 lead at the first-half water break. Bailee Stewart added another goal from long range to secure the Pumas' first win since November 2019.
The next challenge for the Pumas was against the 2021 NJCAA National Champions and #2 Ranked Phoenix College on September 4. Traveling to PC to play under the lights, the young Puma team met all they could handle. The Bears went up 4-0 in the first half. After regrouping at halftime, The Pumas refocused and responded with two goals in the second half. Despite the effort, the final score of the game was 6-2 in favor of PC.
The women return to action today at 4:30pm at Glendale Community College. The Pumas' first home game will be on September 21 against Yavapai at 1pm.
