PUMA SOFTBALL LOSES HEARTBREAKER TO SOUTH MOUNTAIN
 
Puma Softball (2-18) traveled to South Mountain on April 4 where they took on the Cougars (16-12). 
 
Game 1: PVCC 1, SMCC 9 (5)
The Pumas had a hard time keeping up with SMCC in game one of the double header. 
 
The Cougars got off to a fast start, sconing five runs in the first three innings. The Pumas were able to get on the board in the top of the fourth after Siennah Serrano grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Makayla Price, but were not able to muster any more runs. 
 
Allisyn Crabtree started the game for the Pumas. Crabtree went five innings, surrendering nine runs (six earned) on nine hits. The righthander struck out three and walked three. 
 
Game 2: PVCC 6, SMCC 7
A walk-off left the Pumas on the wrong end of a 7-6 defeat to SMCC in game two of the double header. The Pumas lost despite leading 6-1 in the fifth inning. 
 
The Pumas got off to a hot start when Emily Quigg hit a two run homer in the top of the first inning to give the Pumas the lead. The Pumas added on an additional run in the second inning on an Amber Lopez sacrifice fly. The Pumas were able to tack on three more runs in the top of the fifth on a three-run home run by Estevannie Rojas
 
The Cougars crawled back and scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, two runs in the bottom of the sixth and won the game on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning. 
 
Araeya Cosay took the loss for the Pumas. The righty went six plus innings, allowed seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits, striking out five and walking six. 
 
Rojas provided a pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Pumas with three runs batted in. The clean-up hitter went 1-4 on the day. Kaitlyn Whaley and Quigg each collected two hits for the Pumas. Rhaylyn Tarango led the Pumas with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying four walks for the game. 
 
The Pumas travel to Glendale Community College on April 9 to take on the Gauchos. First pitch is at 12pm.
