PUMAS SPLIT WITH GLENDALE

Puma Softball (5-19) split with Glendale over the weekend taking home the win in game one of the double header.

Game 1: PVCC 2, GCC 0

Dawn Morris didn't allow a single run as the Pumas defeated Glendale 2-0 game one of the double header on Saturday. Morris, had a no-hitter going into the seventh ining, and ultimatley allowed just two hits on the way to the Puma victory.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Morris struck out three, while the Gaucho pitching sat down four.

The Pumas scored their two runs in the top of the third and seventh innings, respectively. The Pumas took the lead in the third inning when Emily Viramontes doubled, scoring Maegan Viramontes from first base. The Pumas added on an insurance run in the seventh inning when Monika Rodriguez flied out to right field allowing Evianna Varela to tag up from third.

That was all the offense the Pumas needed and Morris dominated the pitcher's circle. The southpaw went seven innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out three and walking zero.

Maegan Viramontes, Emily Viramontes, and Varela each managed one hit to lead the Pumas. The Pumas didn't commit a single error in the field. 

Game 2: PVCC 3, GCC 6

The Pumas out hit the Gauchos nine to six, but it wasn't enough in a 6-3 loss in game two of the double header.

Down 6-0, the Pumas attempted a comeback in the seventh scoring three runs. Abby Menor, Maegan Viramontes, and Estevannie Rojas each had RBIs in the big inning.  The Pumas socked one home run on the day when Menor put one out in the seventh inning.  The Pumas collected nine hits on the day. Rojas, Briana Govea, and Viramontes all had two hits to lead the team.

Holly Myers started the game for the Pumas. Myers surrendered six runs on six hits over six innings.
