Puma Softball (0-4) started their 2022 season last week with games against Glendale on Tuesday and Chandler-Gilbert on Saturday.

Tuesday, February 8

Game 1: GCC 9, PVCC 7

The Pumas stayed in it until the end, but Glendale pulled away late in a 9-7 victory. The game was tied at five with the Gauchos batting in the bottom of the sixth when a single brought in two runs.

Despite the loss, the Pumas did collect ten hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, the Gauchos had 14 hits on the way to victory.

Dawn Morris was in the circle for the Pumas. The southpaw went four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out two. Jazlyn Romero threw two innings out of the bullpen.

The Pumas totaled ten hits with Andi Elliott, Briana Govea, and Maegan Viramontes each collecting two hits to lead the Pumas.

Game 2: GCC 12, PVCC 4 (5)

The Pumas watched game two slip away early and couldn't recover in a 12-4 loss to Glendale.

The Pumas struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the Gauchos, giving up 12 runs.

Jazlyn Romero was on the rubber for the Pumas. The righthander went four and two-thirds innings, allowing 12 runs on 15 hits and walking zero.

The Pumas hit one homerun on the day when Evianna Varela had a dinger in the fifth inning. Varela led the Pumas with two hits in three at bats.

Saturday, February 12

Game 1: CGCC 5, PVCC 3

In game one of the double header, Chandler-Gilbert came away with the win in a tough loss for the Pumas.

Jazlyn Romero took the loss for the Pumas allowing 10 hits and five runs over four innings, walking one.

The Pumas socked one homerun in the game when Mikaela Salkauskas hit her first collegiate bomb in the fifth inning.

The Pumas totaled eight hits in the game. Valeria Rodriguez and Salauskas each had multiple hits for the Pumas with Rodriguez leading the team with three hits in four at bats.

Game 2: CGCC 12, PVCC 3

The Pumas fell behind early and couldn't recover in a 12-3 loss to the Coyotes.

The Pumasgave up 12 hits to Chandler-Gilbert in the affair.

Dawn Morris took the loss for the Pumas. The southpaw surrendered 12 runs on 15 hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking one.

A bright spot for the Pumas came when Mikaela Salkauskas hit her second homerun of the day when she went deep in the third inning.

The Pumas saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Andi Elliott and Salkauskas each collected multiple hits for the Pumas with Elliott leading the team with three hits in four at bats.
