Game 1: SCC 11, PVCC 14

Pumas Claim Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Artichokes

The Pumas nabbed the lead late in the game in a 14-11 victory over SCC on Tuesday. 

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. PV collected 18 hits and SCC had 14.

The Pumas opened up scoring in the first inning.  Peyton Krause was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.

After PV scored four runs in the top of the third, SCC answered with four of their own.  The Pumas scored when Lopez singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Emily White grounded out, scoring one run, and Maegan Viramontes doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.  SCC then answered when #15 homered on a 1-1 count, scoring four runs.

PV was down 7-6 in the top of the fifth inning when Leticia Lopez homered on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

The Artichokes scored four runs in the seventh inning.  Scottsdale batters contributing to the big inning included #22, #4,  #1, and #9, all driving in runs in the frame.

Jazlyn Romero led things off in the circle for PV. Romero surrendered 11 runs on 14 hits over six and two-thirds innings.

The Pumas hit two home runs on the day. Lopez put one out in the fifth inning. Maegan Ford went deep in the fifth inning.

PV totaled 18 hits.  Emily Viramontes, Lopez, Thalia Higuera, Viramontes, Krause, Valeria Rodriguez, and White each racked up multiple hits.  Lopez and Viramontes all had three hits to lead PV.



Game 2: SCC 15, PVCC 11

Pumas Drop Game to Artichokes After Late Score

The Pumas lost the lead late in a 15-11 defeat to SCC on Tuesday. 

Despite the loss, PV did collect 16 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, SCC had 14 hits on the way to victory.

PV got on the board in the first inning when Jazlyn Romero singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

The Pumas notched six runs in the second inning.  PV's big bats were led by Thalia Higuera, Peyton Krause, Leticia Lopez, and Jordyn Cromer, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

The game was tied at 11 with The Artichokes batting in the bottom of the fifth when #15 doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

Cromer started the game for PVCC. The righthander allowed four hits and five runs over two innings, walking one.  Romero threw four innings in relief.

The Pumas tallied 16 hits on the day.  Higuera, Romero, Emily Viramontes, Cromer, and Lopez all collected multiple hits for Paradise Valley Community Coll.  Higuera went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Pumas in hits.
