Puma alumnus and NJCAA All-American Nico Montanez will compete in the 2023 World Track & Field Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on August 27.  Montanez is one of three Americans selected to represent Team USA in the marathon at the championships.

Montanez was an NJCAA All-American for PVCC, where he competed during the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 academic years. Prior to attending PVCC, he was a 10-time high school state champion at St. Augustine High School in Tucson, AZ.  After PVCC, he finished his collegiate career at Brigham Young University where he was named an NCAA All-American after finishing 9^th at the 2016 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.  Montanez now competes for the Mammoth Track Club and is sponsored by ASICS.  His personal best in the marathon is 2:09:55.
