MEN’S SOCCER OPENS SEASON STRONG

Friday, August 19 - PVCC 4, SMCC 2

Men's Soccer opened their 2022 season on Friday, August 19 against South Mountain Community College. The Pumas took the early lead when Manuel Zambrano scored on a free kick in the fourth minute of the game. Matthew Garcia extended the Pumas lead in the 12th minute and again in the 24th minute to put the Pumas up 3-0. SMCC countered and scored in the 35th minute to give the Pumas a 3-1 lead going into halftime.

In the 58th minute of the game, Phoenix Hall scored to put the Pumas up 4-1. The Cougars then countered again in the 60th minute to cut the Pumas lead to 4-2. The last 30 minutes of the game the Pumas were able to hold off SMCC and they came away with their first victory of the year. The Pumas had 16 shots to SMCC's five and were led by Mark Dobos who had three.

 

Tuesday, August 23 – PVCC 1, GCC 0 

The Pumas second game of the season came against Glendale Community College.  The game was a forfeiture by the Gauchos.

 

Saturday, August 27 – PVCC 4, GWCC 1

The Pumas took on GateWay Community College on in game three of the season. The Gauchos took the early lead when they scored in the 5th minute. The Pumas rebounded quickly and evened the score in the 9th minute on a free kick from Manuel Zambrano, his second of the season. Phoenix Hall also added his second goal of the season in the 21st minute to put the Pumas up 2-1.

In the second half of the game, the Pumas were able to pull away for good when Nicklaus McCaffrey scored in the 62nd minute of the game and Jalen Pasillas put the game out of reach when he put the Pumas up 4-1 in the 84th minute. The Pumas had 14 shots to GWCC's three and were led by Pasillas who had five.

The Pumas are back in action on Friday, September 2, when they take on Mesa Community College at 5:30pm at MCC.
