PUMA BASEBALL DEFEATS SCOTTSDALE

Puma Baseball (12-2) extended their win streak as they swept Scottsdale CC in the two game series over the weekend. 

Friday, February 16: PVCC 8, SCC 5

Jackson Babione collected three hits in five at bats as the Pumas defeated Scottsdale in game one of their two-game series. Babione doubled in the fourth and fifth innings, and singled in the seventh.

After the Artichokes got on the board in the first inning, the Pumas jumped into the lead in the top of the fifth when Babione doubled, scoring two runs and Jake Alwine singled, scoring one run.

Scottsdale tied the game at three a piece in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Pumas took control in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs on four hits to take an 8-3 lead. The biggest play in the inning was a triple by Alex Sanchez that drove in two runs.

John Witt earned the win for the Pumas. The righthander gave up two hits and two runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Joe Hanning started the game for the Pumas, allowing two hits and three runs (zero earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out eight and walking one. Quinn Lorgeree and Luis Ozuna appeared in relief for the Pumas with Ozuna earning the save.

The Pumas had 11 hits in the game with Babione and Armas each collecting three hits to lead the team. Alwine, Babione, and Sanchez each drove in two runs. Defensively, the Pumas turned two double plays.

Saturday, February 17: PVCC 5, SCC 3

Jake Alwine went three for three at the plate to lead the Pumas to a 5-3 victory over Scottsdale. Alwine singled in the third inning, seventh inning, and eighth inning.

Scottsdale was able to get on the board first when the Artichokes hit into a fielder's choice in the third inning, scoring one run.

The Pumas captured a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third after Alex Sanchez was hit by a pitch and Carson Bembridge hit into a double play, each scoring one run.

After the Artichokes took the lead again in the fourth inning, the Pumas jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the seventh after Cooper Holtorf tripled and Bembridge singled, each scoring one run.

Ian Koosman earned the win for the Pumas. The righty surrendered one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out six and walking three. Riley Roskopf started the game for the Pumas. The lefty allowed four hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking two. Owen Harper threw one inning of shutout ball in relief, and Cayden Collins earned the save.

The Pumas collected 13 hits in the game. Alwine and Juan Carlos Kalemera each collected three hits for the team. Bembridge led the Pumas with two runs batted in.

The Pumas welcome Thompson River of Canada on Thursday, February 22 for their next game.
