PUMAS FALL TO YAVAPAI AND CENTRAL

Puma Baseball (19-16) is in a stretch where they are facing Division I opponents. The Pumas were swept by both Yavapai and Central Arizona last week.

Thursday, February 23: Game 1 – PVCC 2, YC 3

Game one of the double header against Yavapai College was a heartbreaker for the Pumas, as they lost the lead late in a 3-2 defeat.

The Pumas got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, when Rob Liddington doubled scoring Drew Kaatz to tie the game at 1-1. In the fifth inning, Matt Graf singled, scoring Austin Corbett to take a 2-1 lead. The game was tied at two with YC batting in the top of the seventh when the Roughriders singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
 
Liddington, Ty Cowan, Graf, and Corbett each collected one hit to lead the Pumas offensively. Defensively, the Pumas didn't commit a single error in the field. Graf had the most chances in the field with seven.
 
The pitching was strong on both sides. YC pitchers struck out five, while Puma pitcher sat down six. Liam O'Brien started the game for the Pumas. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out six.

Game 2 – PVCC 2, YC 10

The Pumas fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 10-2 loss to Yavapai College in game two of the double header.

The Pumas struggled to contain the Roughrider's high-powered offense, giving up 10 runs.

Sam Lachot toed the rubber for the Pumas. The righthander surrendered five runs on four hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out four.

Carson Craig went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

 
Saturday, March 25: Game 1 – PVCC 2, AWC 11
 
The Pumas watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 11-2 loss to Arizona Western in game one of the double header.

The Pumas struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the Matadors, giving up 11 runs.

Jackson Brenna took the loss for the Pumas. The lefty lasted one and one-third innings, allowing eight hits and six runs.

Drew Bond led the team offensively with two hits in three at bats.

Game 2 – PVCC 1, AWC 2

The Pumas got down early in game two of the double header against Arizona Western and were never able to recover as they lost 2-1.

The pitching was strong on both sides. AWC pitchers struck out eight, while Puma pitchers sat down 12.

Kadden Drew took the loss for the Pumas. The pitcher surrendered two runs on two hits over four and a third innings, striking out seven.

The Pumas got their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Austin Corbett singled with the bases loaded, bringing home Sean Cooper.

Cooper led the Pumas with two hits in four at bats. Defensively, the Pumas didn't commit a single error in the field. Cole Williams had 10 chances in the field, the most on the team.
