PUMAS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH SPLIT AGAINST GATEWAY

After opening the 2022 season 8-3 against non-conference opponents, the Pumas started Conference play against the GateWay Geckos on Friday and Saturday.

Friday, February 11: GWCC 12, PVCC 6 

The base paths were crowded for both offenses in a high-scoring game where GateWay came out on top against the Pumas, 12-6.

The Pumas opened up scoring in the second inning when Tyler Cowan singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. GateWay knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning, scoring one run on a single.
 
The Pumas notched three runs in the fourth inning, with Ryan Romero and Chaz Clemons sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
 
GateWay took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth inning.
 
David Enriquez was on the hill for the Pumas. The righthander lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out five. Tomas Urbina and James Webster entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and a third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.
 
The Pumas racked up 13 hits in the game. Clemons, Ike George, Kelly Corl and Derek Wood all managed multiple hits for the Pumas. Clemons led the Pumas with three hits in five at bats.
 

Saturday, February 12: GWCC 2, PVCC 12 (7)

The Pumas had all cylinders firing on offense on Saturday, winning big over GateWay 12-2.

The Pumas got things started in the first inning when Matt Graf singled, scoring one run. The Pumas then notched four more runs in the fifth inning with Tyler Cowan and Kelly Corl each having RBIs in the big inning.

Kadden Drew pitched the Pumas to victory. The lefthander went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking one. Tyler Bribiescas threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

The Pumas launched one homerun on the day when Corl hit a dinger in the fifth inning. Graf, Cowan, Corl, Derek Wood, and Ike George each collected one hit to lead the Pumas offensively. Defensively the Pumas didn't commit a single error in the field. Cole Williams had the most chances in the field with eight.
