PUMA ATHLETICS WRAPS UP SUCCESSFUL SPRING SEASONS DEPSITE PANDEMIC

Pumas Athletics was alive and well during Spring 2021 having been given the opportunity to compete in athletics on campus while most of the college was working and learning from home due to the pandemic. After shutting down operations mid-March 2020 and enduring a shutdown during fall 2020, Puma Athletics proudly returned to competition in January 2021.

During the spring season Puma Athletics hosted approx. 150 student-athletes who competed in nine sport seasons (Baseball, M/W Golf, M Soccer, Softball, M/W Tennis, M/W Track).  In what came down to essentially 90 days of competition, the Pumas hosted 65 home events and competed in upwards of 150 competitions.

Seven teams advanced to post-season Region competition including: Baseball, Men's Golf, Men's Soccer, Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis, and Men's & Women's Track & Field.  Five teams had the opportunity to compete at an NJCAA Nationals Championship including: Women's Golf, Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis and Men's & Women's Track & Field.

During the spring semester, Puma student-athletes also showed strong performances in the virtual classroom.  The Pumas ended the semester with a cumulative GPA of 2.876.  Of note were the 77 student-athletes (53%) who posted a minimum 3.000 GPA.  Also of note are the 81 student-athletes (56%) who posted a cumulative minimum 3.000 GPA. Puma women posted a combined 3.084 GPA, while Puma men posted a combined 2.775 GPA.

Because of their academic performances, Puma Athletics nominated five teams for NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors and 26 individuals for NJCAA Academic honors.  Results of those nominations will be announced later this summer by the NJCAA.

Thanks to the tireless work of Puma coaches, trainers, staff and administration Puma student-athletes were afforded the opportunity to thrive in their athletics environment during the spring semester.  Looking to the 2021-2022 athletics year, the Pumas are ready to hit the ground running come August with a full slate of athletics competition.

Go Pumas!
