PUMA SOFTBALL VICTORIOUS OVER MESA

Puma Softball earned their third win of the year on Saturday when they defeated Mesa 6-4 in game two of the double header.

Game 1: PVCC 6, MCC 8

The Pumas fell to Mesa 8-6 in game one of the double header on Saturday.

The Pumas opened the scoring in the first after Jenna Musselwhite singled, scoring two runs.

After the Thunderbirds took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning, the Pumas jumped back into the lead in the top of the fourth when an error scored one run, and Paige Ginsberg homered to left field, scoring three runs.

A three run fifth inning for Mesa was all they needed to secure the 8-6 victory over the Pumas.

Brianna Sanchez took the loss for the Pumas. The starter went six innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits, striking out one and walking one.

Ginsberg provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Pumas with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Cami Britton went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Pumas in hits. Musselwhite and Sanchez each collected multiple hits and the Pumas turned one double play in the game.

 

Game 2: PVCC 6, MCC 4

The Pumas snatched the lead late in their 6-4 victory over Mesa in game two of the double header on Saturday. The game was tied at four in the top of the sixth when Emily Quigg singled, scoring two runs.

The Pumas opened the scoring in the first after Trista Quijada singled, scoring two runs.

The Pumas captured the lead, 6-4, in the top of the sixth when Jenna Musselwhite doubled, scoring one run, Dedreanna Estrada singled, scoring one run, and Quigg singled, scoring two runs.

Madison Kenney stepped in the circle first for the Pumas. Brianna Sanchez tossed two innings of zero-run ball for Paradise Valley in relief. The pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking none.

The Pumas tallied 12 hits in the game. Estrada, Quigg, Sienna Elliott, Musselwhite, Quijada, and Cami Britton each collected two hits for the Pumas. Quigg and Quijada each drove in two runs for Paradise Valley and Britton stole two bases.

The Pumas will travel to Glendale Community College for their next game on Saturday, April 5.
