PUMAS SPLIT WITH MESA

Tuesday, February 18: PVCC 10, MCC 1 (7)

Sam Round was dominant on the hill, as the righty rang up 13 strikeouts in the Pumas' 10-1 victory over Mesa on Tuesday. Round allowed two hits and one run over six innings while walking one.

The Pumas won thanks in part to six runs in the third inning. Erick Dessens singled, scoring one run, Jackson Babione singled, scoring two runs, Matt Stewart singled, scoring one run, and Tyler Vanmeter singled, scoring two runs.

The Pumas got on the board in the first inning after Jared Swarbrick grounded out, scoring one run. Logan Yule homered to right field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory for the Pumas.

Kaleb Williams threw one inning of zero-run ball for the Pumas in relief. The hurler surrendered one hit, striking out none and walking none.

The Pumas amassed 12 hits in the game. Dessens led the team with four hits in four at bats. Babione, Vanmeter, and Yule each drove in two runs for the Pumas.

Wednesday, February 19: PVCC 3, MCC 4

The Pumas fell to Mesa 4-3 on Wednesday on the final play of the game. The Thunderbirds were down 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning when a single scored three runs.

Logan Yule collected three hits in four at bats in the loss. Yule hit a solo home run to right field in the fifth inning, singled in the seventh inning, and singled in the ninth inning.

A single by Brock DeBattista put the Pumas on the board in the top of the fourth. Yule's solo home run to right field in the top of the fifth completed the scoring for the Pumas.

Owen Harper led things off on the bump for the Pumas. The starter gave up six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.

The Pumas accumulated nine hits in the game. DeBattista, the number eight hitter for the Pumas, led the way with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-2 on the day. The Pumas will travel to South Mountain Community College for their next game on Friday, February 21.  First pitch is at 3:00pm.
