Game 2: MCC 5, PVCC 4

Pumas Can't Quite Erase 5-Run Deficit in Loss to Mesa

The Pumas effort to come back from a five run deficit in the third inning came up just short, as they fell 5-4 to Mesa on Saturday. The Pumas scored three runs in the failed comeback on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Paige in the seventh, a double by Ryan Romero in the eighth, and a single by Anthoine Shell in the eighth.

The Pumas couldn't keep up with Mesa early in the game. The Thunderbirds took the lead on a double in the first inning and then scored three more runs in the third.

The Pumas notched three runs in the eighth inning. The big bats in the inning were led by a single by Shell and a double by Romero.

Brock Arnold led things off on the pitcher's mound for the Pumas. The southpaw lasted three innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out three and walking one. Danny Carpenter, Jonathan Hyman, and Brady Welch each contributed in relief for the Pumas.

The Pumas tallied eight hits. Noah Burgarello and Romero had two hits to lead the Pumas.
