
After 17 years, the Puma Baseball Program is still adding firsts to the record books. Logan Yule became the first Puma in program history to hit for the cycle when he went 4 for 4 to carry the Pumas (31-16) to an 11-1 victory over Phoenix College on Wednesday. Yule hit a solo home run to right field in the first inning, doubled in the sixth inning, singled in the seventh inning, and tripled in the ninth inning. He was also walked in the third inning.
Owen Harper (5-1) got the win, striking out 10 batters on the day, his most all season. The southpaw surrendered four hits and one run over six and one-third innings while walking two.
The Pumas opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two home runs, Alex Sanchez hit a solo shot with two outs followed by Yule's solo home run.
The Pumas scored five runs on three hits in the top of the ninth inning. Yule tripled, scoring one run, Keith Eusebio singled, scoring two runs, Andrew Armas drew a walk, scoring one run, and Erick Dessens singled, scoring one run.
Kaleb Williams tossed one and two-thirds innings of no-run ball the Pumas in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out one and walking none.
The Pumas tallied 13 hits in the game. Dessens, Sanchez, Yule and Armas each collected multiple hits for the team. The Pumas had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks during the game, Jared Swarbrick, Sanchez, and Armas all had two free passes. Defensively, the Pumas were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Catcher Matt Stewart had the most chances in the field with 12.
The Pumas host Mesa Community College on Friday, April 18, first pitch is at noon.
