Pumas Lose Lead Early in Defeat
The Pumas fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 11-1 loss to the Thunderbirds on Saturday. Mesa took the lead on a fielder's choice in the first inning.
The Pumas struggled to contain the high-powered offense of MCC, giving up 11 runs.
Colby Davis started the game for the Pumas. Davis allowed seven hits and seven runs over four innings, striking out one. Michael Modrick threw one and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.
Noah Burgarello and Derek Wood each managed one hit for the Pumas.
Game 2: MCC 15, PVCC 14
Pumas Stay Competitive but are Bested by Mesa
Even though the Pumas and Thunderbirds both had their opportunities, it was MCC that eventually prevailed 15-14 on Saturday.
Jonathan Hyman was on the hill for the Pumas. The pitcher allowed two hits and four runs over three innings, striking out two. Brady Welch, Zach Rogers, Carpenter, and Logan Birch each entered the game in relief, throwing two innings, one & one-third innings, one inning, and two-thirds of an inning respectively.
The Pumas lost despite out-hitting Mesa 13 to 11. Molina, Anthony Marcon, and Shell each collected three hits to lead the Pumas.
